  2. Why Coenraet started painting is noted in sphinxfineart.com: “He suffered from poor health, but recovered by ‘g a r d e n i n g’ and became enthusiastic in painting flowers and fruit. The portrait painter Constantyn Netscher became his teacher – his influence may be regarded in several details of Roepel’s paintings, particularly in architectural elements and sculptures in the background.”
    His portrait by Richard van Bleeck (ca. 1715) wearing a white wig is in a private collection.
