Those who are not conversant in works of art are often surprised at the high value set by connoisseurs on drawings which appear careless, and in every respect unfinished; but they are truly valuable... they give the idea of a whole.

Glad you didn’t choose Osias’ ‘Still life of a roast chicken, a ham and olives on pewter plates with a bread roll, an orange, wineglasses and a rose on a wooden table’ for Today’s eye candy.
    Thank you.

Hi. I’m from Japan.I once left a comment 3 or 4 years ago, maybe you forgot. I always enjoy your posts. Btw, you know Ohrai Noriyoshi—an illustrator who painted Star Wars poster about 40 years ago? He mainly worked during ’70s and ’80s.Now he got old and retied. Even in Japan, he is now almost forgotten. I have a friend who is a designer and respects Ohrai very much. He organized a retrospective exhibition?of Ohrai. If you have interest, check this site.

Amazing. In the National Gallery, I’d have walked past without realizing how this rewards close inspection. Thank you.
