Mesa (Table), Jan Davidsz de Heem

Original is in the Prado, Madrid, but I don’t think they have an image on their website.
The intricate surface of the decorative metal is of course the star here, but I also love the reflections in the glassware, in addition to his handling of the other objects.

This is simply dripping with lusciousness! But, I’m curious to know in the detail shots (esp in the 3rd and 4th down pics) if all those white specs were placed by the artist, reflections from the flash or places where the paint is flaking off the painting. That “2” on the vine in the 4th pic is very mysterious! :)

Thanks, Sherrill.
I can’t really say without seeing the original, but I have to think the seemingly random white specks (as opposed to some deliberate ones in the liquid) are the result of the camera picking up raised areas, imperfections or damage in the original.
The “2” is a mystery to me as well…
Look at that lemon! Texture is exquisite. I feel a bit sick though looking at it maybe back then the overall conditions are not the same as today’s standards.
the details are phenomenal!
