    In 1839 Martinus Christian Wedseltoft Rørbye was the first Thorvaldsen Medal awarded artist for his painting based on sketches, “En Tyrkisk Notar, Som Afslutter En Aegtepagt”, A Turkish notary drawing up a marriage contract (in front of the Kiliç Ali Pasha Mosque, Tophane, Constantinople).
