Of course a fabulously precise and detailed painting; I wonder if/how the colours have faded over the years -this was painted in 1627, almost 400 years ago.
The yellow seems to have faded a bit out of the lemon, but maybe less so around the neck of the turkey. Maybe depends on the amount of white mixed in? The grapes seem a bit flat, but that also may be the photography.
Wonderful work to look at in any case.
For Charley, an old poem:
The Eagle, proud bird! May he soar round and round
As he mounts up still higher and higher!
While the turkey, we trust, will still roost near the ground
Within reach when occasions require.
For we’re sure there is none who will care to deny,
In the name of good cheer and good living,
That the eagle’s all right for the Fourth of July,
But the turkey’s the bird for Thanksgiving.
