Charcoal and chalk on paper, roughly 23 x 18 inches (58 x 46 cm).
This forceful but sensitive portrait drawing by 19th century Australian artist Florence Rodway is a tour-de-force in soft edges.

FLORENCE ALINE RODWAY (1881-1971), painter and pastellist, was born on 1 1 November 1881 at Hobart, daughter of Leonard Rodway, a dentist and botanist, and Louisa Susan, nee Phillips, but who is the model, please?
I didn’t see the model’s name anywhere. It may not be known.
The following link is the digitalised catalogue of her in total 40 portraits and pastels at exibition in 1914, during August 19 to 31st:
Very interesting, Charley.
