Self-portraits #14

Self-portrait Ivan Shishkin

Self portraits: Ivan Shishkin, Laura Johnson Knight, Antonio Mancini, Asher B. Durand, Egon Schiele, Joshua Reynolds, Jose Manuel Capuletti, Gustave Courbet, Lovis Corinth, Marie Bracquemond

Another in my series of posts of artists’ self-portraits.

The series started when I got tired of hearing about “selfies”, and came out with an attitude of “You want selfies? I show you some selfies!”, but gradually relaxed into an ongoing series based on variety.

Wow, that Manchini! I know he was an eccentric, like, painting a black halo around his head…

    1. Yeah. I think saying Mancini was eccentric is a little like saying it’s worm on the sun.

  2. How on earth did they (those that did) get both of their hands in the painting?

    1. It’s all done with mirrors! (Grin) You can use two mirrors to reverse the reflection of your non-dominant hand, so it appears to be in the position of your dominant one. You can also have someone else pose for your hand.
