Sir Lawrence, aka Lourens, Laurens, Alma-Tadema was born in Frisian Dronryp(Dronrijp), the Netherlands, trained in Antwerp, Belgium, settled in England where he felt ‘at home’, but died in Germany. He was expected to become a lawyer, but due to tuberculosis his destiny had altered.

P.S. Alma was Tadema’s adopted name.
