Her name is Marie or Mary, born as Maria Martha Mathilde Triepcke.
This is the photograph Krøyer based the painting on.
Fascinating. Thanks, Ælle!
Thank you for the mention, even as someone who knows the original very well, its still fascinating to dwell a bit on some of the details you have focused on. Marie winded up divorcing Krøyer and married the Swedish computer Hugo Alfvén instead btw.

Thanks, Jakob!
I usually try to link to works like this on the website of the museum, when available, but this doesn’t appear to be one of the highlighted pieces from the collection.
For the benefit of other readers, here is a link to the English language home page of the Skagens Museum, and pages highlighting other work by Krøyer and other Skagens artists. You can also find more beautiful pieces from the Skagens Museum in high resolution on the Google Art Project.
Here is my previous post on Peder Severin Krøyer.
Peculiar of Krøyer to have made a portrait of his rival, the Swedish composer Alfvén, who in turn, married twice again after Marie!

Have always loved that piece and all of the things outlined in the post.
Art historian and researcher Raphael Fitzgerald discusses in two parts the painter Marie Triepcke, who struggles to persevere as one of Skagen’s artists, in the ‘shadow’ of Krøyer.
