Eye Candy for Today: William Blake Richmond’s Venus and Anchises

On Google Art project, downloadable file on Wikimedia Commons, original is in the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.

Kind of odd the way Anchises is shoved up into the corner of the background, almost as though the artist just wanted to get him out of the way so he could concentrate on Venus and her beautiful surroundings of flora and fauna.

  1. Certain aspects of this painting bear resemblance to the work of Edward Burne-Jones. Specifically, the drawing of the feet of Venus, and the head of Anchises.

    1. Yes. There’s also a feeling, I think, of Botticelli.
